2024 Season Review

Updated: Nov 19

Welcome to our blog! I (Chelsea) decided to start documenting some of our farm journey here. First up, I share how our 2024 season went. I am hoping to share some recipes, growing tips, farm updates and more in the future, stay tuned!

As I enjoy my coffee, watching the sun rise, I am reflecting on this past season. The 2024 season was one of our worst growing years, but there is still so much to be thankful for! We had very hot and dry April and May followed by a very wet and cold June. There was a killing frost on June 18th! This is the latest frost that I have experienced in my growing years, most of our pumpkins and winter squash were wiped out. However, our brassicas loved the cooler start and grew beautifully! Other vegetables that did well this year; tomatoes, summer squash, carrots, swiss chard, lettuce, radish, peas and beans. Our celery had a slow start and while the flavor was phenomenal, the stalk were quite small compared to other years, you win some, you lose some!

Despite not having the best growing season, it was still a success in many ways! I was published in my favorite magazine, Trailblazher. You can find the issue with my submission, here. I was asked to represent our community in a video for the Lac Cardinal Reginal Economic Development Board. I was a talk-show guest at the Women In the North Conference, and I did a gardening talk at a local library with other growers from our area. All of these opportunities were very fulfilling and solidified why I do what I do. We also hosted a "Yoga in the Garden" class that was led by Jess Mrazek. The class was followed by a juice shot created by Holistic Nutrition Practitioner, Amy Soudek from More with Amy. She made this refreshing juice from our veggies! We can't wait to host more events like this next year!

While we were not able to donate as much produce as we usually do, we did make some drop-offs at local food banks and shelters when we could!

We did not run our CSA Program in 2024 and I can say that I definitely missed it, especially the community it brings together each year. We are currently working on our 2025 CSA Program and are so excited to launch it in February!

In closing, I am so thankful for the continued support of our loyal customers and for the support of many new ones. We would not be where we are without our customers and we are forever grateful for you!
